Network rant! or Why I've fallen off the face of the internet
Some of you people who stumble here every now and then might know that I'm currently enjoying a stay in Frenchieland, since about a month ago. I'm staying in an out of the way lodging for visiting researchers, mostly due to the lack of time to find a proper apartment (we finalized the date two weeks before my arrival, so there wasn't enough time for anything), a general feeling of I-don't-give-a-fuck-I-just-want-to-finish-my-thesis from myself, and people wanting a roommate that will stay more than the four or five months I'll be here.

Now, the place is adequate, even if it has some silly ideas. For example, we have no kitchens (either in-suite or communal) which would be alright since there's a sort of restaurant here. Except it closes the weekends and festives. Which is when we can't just have lunch at the lab restaurant. Am I the only one who doesn't see the logic in this? I mean, about the only reason I can find for closing the place where we get our food from during the weekends is that they don't want to pay weekend premiums to their workers.

But the part that's annoying me more than anything is the internet access, or lack thereof. There's internet in the lobby, via wireless, only it's so crowded that getting anywhere on it is a pain in the behind. I was pretty happy when, a week or so after I arrived, they came to lay a network cable to my room. That would have been all, but of course the network only stayed up for two days, then took three weeks to repair. Yep, that's right. Three weeks to do what amounts to a reboot of the routers. I could understand if it were that the lines were put in wrong. I wouldn't be happy about it, but it happens and that can take a while to fix. But no, the lines are fine, it's apparently that the routers they're using are barely appropiate for a network composed by 4 computers, nevermind a couple hundred.

So, two days ago the network was finally fixed. For a whole hour, even. I need my internet access, damnit! There's a lot of things I do in the Internet that might get me a kick in the ass if I do them from the lab (and no, I don't mean watching porn).

En fin, I'll just have to weather it, I guess. Only a few months left.

I think you wanted "comprised of", not "composed by".

I miss you and want to talk to you, but alas, I work now. :( In a place sans internet access. UGH IT SUCKS. I'll make an effort to email you details of why I want to talk to you. Te extrano, even sans accents.

You're probably right. I wasn't at my best mood ever when I wrote this, so a mistake here or there is hardly surprising. At least I managed to avoid the capslock of RAGE :P

Yeah, I'd noticed I hardly ever see you online now :( :( Of course, my own lack of internet during the evening hardly helps. I miss you too *hugs*

And whaddya mean why you want to talk to me? You need a reason? :P
