Well, in the end it was the power supply, instead of the motherboard. Which is incredibly good, because power supplies are a dime a dozen, while socket 939 motherboards are about as easy to find as Shangri'la. The one snag is that the new power supply I got is a typical stock PSU, and so lacks a couple of cables that the old one (which was a decent enough Antek model) had. For example, I really need an extra IDE drive four pin power connector - I'll have to seek one out. But all in all, things are working once again, so yay!
